What’s Your Super-Power?
Applying, Patrick Lencioni’s ‘The Six Types Of Working Genius’.
It’s rewarding when you introduce a concept to a client that really resonates. I can only imagine how satisfied Patrick Lencioni and his team must feel with the positive feedback to ‘The Six Type Of Working Genius Model’. In a nutshell the model is a productivity tool. You can apply it to yourself, and I’m convinced like I found, it will provide some enlightening insights around your working style and your energy levels at work. You can also take it that one step further, as a client of mine has, and use it to understand your team better and make some changes to how you work together.
The model is based on 6 types of work and the flow of those across 3 distinct stages. For each of us 2 types of work fall right into our wheelhouse – we are energised when we’re working in these spaces – they are our ‘superpower’ that we bring to a team. Then there are 2 types of work that we’re ‘competent’ at – we often find ourselves doing this type of work as we’re good at it, however we’re not necessarily energised by them and we can often find ourselves a bit underwhelmed by doing these types of work after a while. Lastly there are 2 types of work that we find ‘frustrating’, these types of work actually drain our energy, we are often not very productive when we’re working in these spaces.
As I mentioned the six types of work flow in alignment with the three stages of work. The model is nicely outlined by the diagram on Patrick Lencioni’s resource tools: https://www.workinggenius.com/about.
As you will see the Ideation stage work requires ‘Wonder’ and ‘Invention’, the Activation stage of work requires ‘Discernment & Galvanizing’ and the Implementation stage of work requires ‘Enablement & Tenacity’.
What’s your superpower - are you energised by work that lands you in Wonder, Invention, Discernment, Galvanising, Enablement or Tenacity?
Ideally your team will have a good mix of all 6 superpowers. The question is not only do have the right mix but are those superpowers matched to the type of work that require them? And, for your own work satisfaction are you doing the type of work that requires your superpowers?
These are all questions that I’ve been exploring with my client and their team – they’re now reshaping some of the project work assigned to individuals in their team to help them achieve greater work satisfaction and improve the organisations’ productively – a win-win all around.
I’ve provided some links to some of Patrick Lencioni’s tools below on this page. If you’d like to explore the 6 working genius model further, let’s talk.
